lusciousxander: (Strength of his hero by mysteryof)
After the spread of the infamous Buffy/Xander discussion on Tumblr and the difficulty of actually reading it, people on sweet, discussion-friendly LJ started to give their two cents on the subject. The Question is:

"Why isn't the Buffy/Xander pairing more popular?"

Now I've read a beautiful essay written by [livejournal.com profile] shadowkat67 on why this pairing doesn't work and those two are far more beautiful and interesting as friends.

B/X parallels - Dealing with the Monster

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I had a blast rereading this sort of essay/meta by [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs about Fanon Xander. There are so many versions of Xander in Fan Fiction that tend to be so far away from the guy on the show. I have to say when I first started reading BtVS fanfics OhSoGayXander and VictimXander were my favorites. That changed throughout the years. Now I can only read CanonXander or the closest to CanonXander that a writer can write.

Stalking the fanon Xander... Check it out, especially if you're going to write a fic with Xander in it. Make sure to avoid those Fanon Xander tropes - which IMO are mostly in the past. I don't think most of those Fanon Xander tropes exist nowadays.

Summary: Reasons why Anya was easily accepted as a Scooby than Spike.
Spoilers: From S2 toward S7.
Word count: 2,609
Notes: This essay is an answer to [livejournal.com profile] bookishwench's question: Why is Anya, a demon who has lost her powers and has tried to kill the Scoobies at least twice, regarded as being less of a threat/more acceptable to the group than Spike, a demon who has lost his powers and has tried to kill the Scoobies as well?

Great thanks to [livejournal.com profile] llywela13 for being my wonderful beta and giving me the cutest title.

Title: Buffy and Xander as Role Models (written for [livejournal.com profile] spring_with_xan)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lusciousxander
Characters: Xander and Buffy
Summary: Joss wrote Buffy and Xander as role models and they've been my role models before I knew about this fact.
Warnings:

A) This is jumbled words of defense and not an essay.

B) Don't bash Joss, Marti or any other writer.

C) Try as hard as you can NOT to:
1) Take this post or anyone's comment personally,
2) Use inappropriate language,
3) Pick fights with other posters,
4) And please don't ridicule posters' lousy use of English or intelligence. Most of us are not native speakers, so be respectful please. Cordelia's tactless honesty is fun on screen, but it's really NOT when talking to real people.

Go and read....

Title: Xander and Gender Reversal (written for [livejournal.com profile] spring_with_xan)

Author: [livejournal.com profile] lusciousxander

Spoilers: All seasons of BtVS, including S8.

Notes: I'm not sure if I'd call this an essay. I didn't have time to do research, most of it is just me rambling.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] vampmogs for reading this and providing me with the S8 images.

lusciousxander: (I don't like vamps by mysteryof)
After reading a lot of fanfic and so many discussions on message boards, I discovered that most people believe that Xander will turn things upside down when he learns about Buffy's relationship with Spike in any season and possibly in the S8 comics if Spike ever showed up and started a relationship with Buffy. Granted, he did turn things upside down in Entropy. However, he didn't scream murder when he SAW Spike and Buffy (Buffybot) in action in Intervention. So what's the deal with that unpredictable Xander-guy?

[profile] lorelei_frolick wrote an extensive character analysis of Giles. This honestly one of the best Giles analysises that I've read. She also discusses an important point about Giles not being an authority figure.
